What Kind of Trip Should You Plan

The Pros and Cons of Solo, Duo, and Group Travel

Like most people, you’re looking forward to your next vacation, and you may be wondering…“Should I travel by myself, with my partner/friend or should I travel with my family or a group of friends?”

I’ve experienced each style of travel and would recommend to try all three at least one time in your life.

In this post, I will share with you the pros and cons of solo, duo, and group travel. I will also share some tips on how to overcome the cons of each travel style.

Be sure to read until the end because I have a special gift waiting for you! All the information below will help you make a decision for your next vacation.

SOLO TRAVEL

With the influence of social media, many people have decided to see the world as solo travelers. My first solo trip was to Paris France in 2013, but I will save that story for another time. Now let’s begin with the pros of traveling by yourself.

PROS

  • The power is in your hands to set your own schedule/tone of your trip.

  • You’ll build self confidence by stepping out of your comfort zone when meeting new people and exploring new places.

  • You can enjoy some “Me time” without distractions.

CONS

  • You may experience loneliness and anxiety when traveling alone long term

  • All the financial responsibilities will be on you.

  • Your safety may be at risk when traveling alone.

*Financial Tip — If you travel often, open an account with an airline to gain and redeem miles to reduce your ticket price.

*Safety Tips — Leave your passport at the hotel and carry a copy of it.

Research the area you will be staying in

Use cash or bring one of your credit or debit cards.

DUO TRAVEL

Traveling alone can be lonesome and you might start to wish there was someone with you. In case you do decide to travel with with somebody else here are some pros and cons of traveling as a pair.

PROS

  • You’ll have someone to share memories with.

  • Traveling with someone builds your teamwork and communication skills.

  • You’ll have someone to take care of you if you get ill.

CONS

  • Be prepared to compromise. Whether it’s your partner, sibling, or friend, the two of you will not have the same interest while traveling.

  • Miscommunication and misunderstanding could damage your relationship.

*Communication Tips — It is very important to express that you need some alone time.

Finding middle ground when planning activities will help you create amazing memories together.

GROUP TRAVEL

Have you been wanting to catch up with some of your closest friends? How about a double couple trip, or a simple family vacation? If you have these things in mind, then a group trip can be a great experience that everyone will love!

PROS

  • When planning a group trip, it gives you the opportunity to spend quality time together.

  • Traveling as a group allows you to split the cost and save money or splurge on other things you wanted to do.

  • Safety won’t be an issue because there is strength in numbers.

CONS

  • Say goodbye to your personal space and time because you’ll have to share it with other people.

  • If a couple gets into an argument, things might get awkward.

  • Be willing to compromise on activities and restaurants so everyone feels included in the planning.

*Outing Tip — Come up with an agreement for everyone to do their own thing for a few hours and meet together for lunch or dinner.

Be mindful when planning a group activity, everyone will want to take part, but may have a limited budget.

*Communication Tips — It is very important to express that you need some alone time.

Finding middle ground when planning activities will help you create amazing memories together.
